Hello everyone.
You may or may not have heard of "Canimals". A 2011 series made by Voozclub. If you don't live under a rock, There's still a 95% chance you don't know what it is due to it not being very well known. Anyways, just like most franchises, it had early development stages, but the early development stage for this series was not just pilots, unlike quite a bit of early versions of things. This lost version has had A LOT of media of it. Before you ask why i'm so intrigued about a search about this early version. The reason I got obsessed with this is because it was the first piece of lost media I had EVER known about. Back in 2017 when I was dumb kid I always wished they would be able to find this but never really questioned if I could try to help finding more of it myself. This search has been going for 5 (6 soon) years, the search has been going since December 2016. yet barely anyone's talked about it. It's a very obscure lost media search. The search has been on the Lost Media Archive Fandom Wiki in all of it's time, and it never was talked about on this wiki, The funny thing about this search is there is a admin for lost media archive wiki who commented on the page in 2016 or 2017 (I forgot which, don't really feel like checking) who said "This will be the next a day with spogebob". Dude, I wish the search for it was that big. The search was started by two fandom editors named "Deerblood" and a guest user who called himself as "DJ 3lectrical". DJ 3lectrical does happen to be his actual name on social media sites. Deerblood has sadly been inactive since 2017 but DJ 3lectrical is still on YouTube and Twitter and he's a pretty cool guy. Before I actually start talking about the search, I wanna talk about my involvement with the search so far, I believe I have found quite a lot of things on the page and I am very important in the search as I have found many important things. Now, let's actually talk about the lost media search itself. You might be thinking "what exactly were the early canimal versions like? You've been kind of just talking about other stuff only related to the search itself, and not the actual lost media", well, I'll actually talk about it now. Anyways, just like the title stated, this is a giant rabbit hole that goes extremely deep. I'm not exactly sure how to talk about it, so I'll format this by year. I'll start with the earliest version of canimals, from 2006. Canimals was started out by the creator thinking about combining a can and a animal while eating a cup soup. Anyways, then canimal was made, it's quite unknown which came first, the animations I will talk about or the pet system, I'll talk about the gaming website first however since that seemed like the reason why Canimals was created. The pet system website was a japanese gaming website developed by NETTS, the company that made Florensia, the gaming website had a pet system where you could choose to own a pet or a dog which were the Canimal characters. The website also had games relating to Pucca, since Canimal was created with Vooz Character System and not Voozclub back then. (Voozclub is a sister company to "Vooz Character System", which is actually well known more as just "Vooz") Anyways, what also came sort of may have came before (although were mostly promoted after) were Flash Animations of Canimal, unfortunately, Pucca was so popular at all these times that i'm guessing not many people cared to repost the canimal videos anywhere, the same goes for many vooz projects, but like I said earlier, this search means a lot to me the most as it was my first introduction to the concept of lost media. These flash animations seemed to be animated in a similar way to Pucca. There is some other mostly lost vooz Flash Animations but I don't feel like sharing them since Canimal is just a search I've been with for a long time. These flash animations seemed to feature a clone of Oz in the only found short but it would not pop out of it's can. Only the first short and some pictures of two other flash animations (featuring a goldfish in a bowl and Nao with a bunch of other cans) have been found. These Flash Animations were also screened at the Tokyo Game Show NETTS booth featuring JGames. (Another name for TokyoPlanet) During it's debut years in 2006 and 2007, it also already had merchandise based off of it. Speaking of 2007, there seems to be many animations with different animation styles before they picked the next animation style made around 2006 and 2007 as talked about in a Naver Blog post talking about the shloting of Canimals (2011) which had some talk about the earlier version, sadly, none of these variety-style animations have been archived except a full-3d animation from 2007, these variety style animations included a black-and-white style animation(s), a stop motion short made with Canimal plushies, and 3d animations. Vooz seemed to really want to experiment with different animation styles, during that time, around 2008 or earlier, Vooz thought of the idea to make the Canimal animation be live action + CGI, during this time, as usual, lots of merchandise was made despite their only being internet animations so far, the live action + CGI animations seem to have a lot made, so far I've found two of these from 2008 (which are named Angry Runner and Skunk) and one from 2009 (which is named Balloon), these live-action + 3D animations sound a lot like the 2011 Canimals version, but they're MUCH different, the character designs were very different and were still the ones from 2006 and in 2009 were only slightly changed, these animations still have the early designs and the characters were much different-looking. These were previously considered lost but have been found later. (In the case of Skunk and Balloon, many versions have been found, including easy-to-find uploads on official Canimals pages themselves) Anyways, there is evidence that there may be more of these live-action + 3D CGI animations existing than the one's we've found specifically from early 2008, as a a clip which seems to be from some sort of siamese cat themed-short was found in the credits of the Canimals (2011) series years alongside a clip from a episode which ended up being found. However there is alao proof there were at least 5 flash animations which cannot be found and multiple lost variety-style flash animations. The first animation being the introduction to the Canimals, which was found. Anyways, during 2009, some companies started being interested in the concept of Canimal, leading the 2011 series itself to start having development sometime in late 2009 (I believe) and then being aired 2 years later in 2011. Sometime in late 2009/early 2010 (likely a while after BRB got involved with the franchise) there was some designs that resembled more of the Canimals (2011) later in late (?) 2009 and early (?) 2010. However, these designs were still quite different, as for example Uly still had his old face design. A Christmas animation released in December of 2009 featuring designs that soft of resemble the 2011 designs, but they're still way different, the designs seemed to finally resemble the 2011 version sometime in 2010, it's unknown if there were ever test animations/animations/early episodes featuring any earlier designs before the finalized designs in 2010, since the Canimals 2011 series itself either started development in 2009 or 2010, so it's possible that they could have animated something with some different designs. Anyways, after that, you get the finalized designs in the 2011 Canimals series which is avaliable to watch and not lost. There is a lot still lost and there might be more lost then we even know, there was more animations we don't know about such as the animations mentioned in the naver blog post, and there was also merchandise that is only partially found which were educational books featuring the Canimals. Before I state what is lost, i'll say two extra things: there was a Vooz theme park planned which was inspired by Disneyland which was never created but had concept art, and there was also a Nintendo DS concept (I can tell for many reasons it's probably not a real ds game) which i'm curious if the picture in the DS actually came from a animation or game on the vooz website or if it was just made for the photo. Anyways, this means there is still a lot of lost or only partially found media which I will now list: 1. The flash animations (1/5 have been found) 2. The variety animations (only a 3D Animation has been found) 3. Possibility of more prototype live-action + CGI animations such as the siamese cat short (3 episodes from 2008-early 2009 have been completely found so far) 4. The possibility of more games/portal site (if any more were made which make be unlikely) and 5. The books which feature rare prototype poses. Anyways, I feel like people will think I'm insane since I made this long thread about a obscure show about animals causing mayhem and fighting, and you might think I look into this search way too much and it's weird, but you need to understand I really love lost media and plan to search for more lost media in the future and this was the first lost media I had ever known about. Anyways, I don't know what else to say, this is hella long and should be way shorter and I wanna stop now, but I just want to say one more thing. If you want any sources, go here: >>>> canimals-prototype-project.fandom.com/wiki/Canimals_Prototype_Project_Wiki (where most things are updated now) lostmediaarchive.fandom.com/wiki/The_Multiple_Earlier_Versions_of_Canimals_(2006-2010) (outdated)
