Company Flow's official video (well, at least the collective appears there) for the hip-hop song titled 8 Steps To Perfection has been up on YT for a very long time, there are reuploads dating from 2008 up till 2010, 11, etc. But the quality is all the same if not worse, 480p does not really seem to be the true 480p but rather an upscale of a lower-res video. So has anyone heard anything about it? I even don't know when it was filmed but I think it was before 2000 because the LP had been released in 95/96 and then in 97 with extras and "plus" at the end of the title.
The choppy frame rate and video quality has me thinking this might've come from an online source back in the late 90s, like an old RealPlayer stream.
I checked the Rawkus website from back then but I'm only able to find audio streams hosted on another website called Sandbox Automatic.
It looks like this site only hosted low quality audio tracks. Not able to find any evidence of video streams. On top of that most of the streams weren't archived properly, but I did find an audio upload for Krazy Kings Too (in very low quality).
Either way if my theory is correct then you'd just end up with the original low quality copy of this video which doesn't help much, but it'd at least be some confirmation on the original source.
The Sandbox Automatic site did sell VHS tapes but I'm not able to find any Company Flow related tapes.
I also tried checking the back of the Funcrusher Plus LP for other leads but nothing sticks out besides the rawkus.com link in the bottom right.
I think your best bet would be to figure out how similar underground hip-hop music videos from this time were produced and distributed. Unfortunately I'm not too familiar with how this kinda thing operated back then.
UPD: Someone uploaded yet another version of this official video and it's not a reupload of any other videos unlike before, it also presumably has the "original" audio track: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xN6s4tdAn6k In the beginning there's the ending of another song Corners '94
