Blood Circus (lost Sci-Fi/Pro-Wrestling film;1985)

This has also consumed many an hour and search of anyone that can get their hands on this, hence my name.

I have even tried baiting Mr. Harris by registering all manner of social media/websites with his supposed “copyrighted” name, to no avail. I guess I have no luck. He forces the singer to change her name to Santigold, but unfortunately no such luck with my efforts...

All attempts to contact him have also come up empty. I’m sure those deep down the rabbit hole have already heard the 605 podcast interview with Baltimore film producer Jeff Krulik that sheds a bit more light on the rag tag nature of the production as well.

There is also the excellent article from the Baltimore City Paper, aptly titled “The Man with the four way lips”.

If you read this far you are probably aware of how for lack of a better term this project seems so “pure”, which is a rich adjective describing a conman’s cash in on the Rock’n’Wrestling craze of the mid 80s. It seems completely untouched by capable hands, from a dangerous boxing ring being booked for the filming. Couple that with a fledgling Houston wrestling office on its last legs supplying the talent, all the pieces were there for a perfect storm, a la Garbage Pail Kids Movie, or Troll 2.

This doesn’t even touch upon the genius of the musical component of this film, or as it’s put in the infomercial “The song Santogold, sung by Santogold, about the product Santogold”.

The only way to describe it would be to lock someone completely devoid of musical talent, who also has been shielded away from music their entire life save for a passing few moments to choreograph a stage show in the mold of a 40’s Hollywood Picture. Like Donald Trump in The Jazz Singer. The band is lost, Dancers stand like stone, while others try to ape the Spector-like Rigatuso. Memphis wrestling washout Silo Sam in his crowning moment of celluloid glory lumbers past, it’s sheer joy for a lover of both wrestling & schlock.

For me there are two shining beacons in the sea of lost media. Jerry Lewis’ The Day The Clown Cried and this. Both endlessly fascinate me for they exist and shouldn’t. They are but they aren’t. They both technically exist, but stand out of time and space and reason.

I wish that Bob Harris could see that to a sizable crowd of Wrestling/B movie fans hold his masterwork in such high reguard. Let’s hope the rumors of his death are unfounded and we one day get a revival circuit showing, complete with The man with the four way lips wowing the crowd once more with his chains and his charms.

I’m glad to hear about this news! I assumed that it was Mr. Harris himself trying to “sell” it on eBay, but are you saying it’s a film collector?

Interesting! I was always under the be assumption that Santo would never have gone through with a sale, but it’s encouraging to know he did and now there is someone else that owns a print as well. Its a big positive in my book if it is in more than one set of hands.
