So I've just posted an article on the Lost Media Wiki about this game called Jet Squadron. It's been edited a bit by the editors, which I myself am Grateful for. But I will tell you more about it.
It was mean't to be Gunblade 3, or the Third in the Gunblade series of games by Sega, it would have featured the traditional Gunblade Features but I don't know what it was about, from the sounds of it I reckon it may have been Gunblade with VTOL Jets instead of Hoverbikes in LA Machineguns or the Helicopter in Gunblade NY.
To Do: Contact anyone who possibly developed on the game and worked at AM3 at the time. I've contacted two developers from Japan, and hopefully they'll answer my questions. Someone who went to the AOU in 2000 may be able to recall it as well.
I wonder what made it not be released?
Just look inside your heart, and you will find the answer.
Not sure if that will cut it, a rom like that would be really rare to share to other users. And it's very likely the source code for the original ROM is lost.
After playing EDF Though, I have a feeling that rather than being a VTOL Game, it would have been Gunblade with Jetpacks.

The NeoGAF thread mentioned in the LMW article points to the following blog (where, at some point, it was claimed that Jet Squadron screenshots did exist):
How about contacting this guy? Maybe he at least knows the website on which those screenshots were posted? It could be that they got archived somewhere on Wayback Machine, but we simply don't know the exact address.
From what I see, he wrote some guides on GameFAQs:
I wonder who he is and, given the fact he remembered those screenshots, if he possessed some interesting insider/first-hand knowledge about new Japanese games at that time.
Also, I found some interesting comment on a certain site about arcades:
"L.A. Machineguns was a great shooter – SEGA AM at it best – love that they even had their Las Vegas facility in the game. GunBlade was a little too repetitive for my liking and Jet Squadron was just flawed."
So yeah, he mentioned all three games from the series, and shared his opinion on each one! Doesn't look like a slip of the tongue to me. The person who wrote this comment is the author of the article itself, Kevin Williams, who seems to work in arcade industry.

Maybe he could share some more info on Jet Squadron?

I've sent Kevin Williams an E-Mail, hoping to get a response from him, it took me a few weeks to get a response from Michael Guinn who worked on Ridge Racer. Presumably he played it on Location Test, because I do think Jet Squadron, like Simdrive, was location tested.

A short update, I managed to find Juro Watari, original game designer for Virtual On on Twitter, and producer of LA Machineguns, I'm hoping he has some information about Jet Squadron. And why it was cancelled.
I've contacted him on Twitter. And I hope that like I did with Simdrive, I get more information on Jet Squadron.

He says he wasn't involved in the making of Jet Squadron, but he answered my questions and he seems like a nice guy like Kenji Sasaki is. Still quite interesting though I hope we do get to the bottom of it one day.

Just a quick one, I'm reading Sega Retro and I just found out that AM3 went defunct in 2000, becoming a company called Hitmaker, I think it split into two, AM Annex now known as Sega Rosso, and Hitmaker. And the defunct date, according to Sega Retro, is April 21st 2000. This was two months after AOU 2000 so I wonder if the restructuring factored into Jet Squadron's cancellation.

A NEW TWIST IN THE JET SQUADRON STORY?
So I was just reading DC Extreme. And I'm not sure if this is a slip of the tongue but here we go.
-Sega AM3 is also working on the sequel to the 3D light gun shooter, Gunblade NY. It will be named Jet Squadron, and this time the game will be on Model 3.
dated 11/26/98, this is nearly one month before LA Machineguns debuted in Japan. and I have a theory. Now this may sound disappointing, that JET SQUADRON WAS ACTUALLY A PROTOTYPE VERSION OF LA MACHINEGUNS!
Well there's actually a song in LA Machineguns that is called "Jet Squadron". Unless Jet Squadron was meant to be "Daytona USA 2 Power Edition" esque Revision to LA Machineguns. But AM3 has had this weird naming convention before, Cyber Troopers Virtual On was originally called "Cyber Troopers".
I'm not entirely sure but I will continue searching for it. I just hope that eventually we find it or find out what it actually is.
Not entirely sure but LA Machineguns working title was Gunblade 2. So that may throw a spanner in the works for this theory.
