I'm looking for an animated short. I'm not quite sure about it's lenght, it must have been between 5 to 10 minutes long. I've seen on TV in mid 2002.
The short itself was mostly silent, I think. It was about a boy who went to bed, whom after his mom kissed him goodnight appears to be very scared of the dark of his own bedroom. He has trouble sleeping and is obviously very bothered and afraid.
Eventually it shows that there actually IS a monster in the bedroom, but the monster is seemingly also a child who himself is afraid of the lead character the "normal human boy". Both appear to be very afraid of each other, making frightened and mimicking moves such as a time when both walk backwards til they step into each other, eventually running apart in fear.
At the end both "human boy" and "monster boy" stop being afraid and sort of befriend one another. Suddenly, the main character "normal human boy" just vanishes with a smile. We see the mother walk back into the room, her face shown for the first time: she looks EXACTLY like the monster boy, the ending having the big twist that the "normal human boy" whom we rooted for had been the monster all along.
It should be noted that despite this short being about fear and mystery, it's far from being a "horror story". The animation was done in cel, and it was very pleasant, kinda like an old Disney cartoon.
Hopefully you can help me find this short I've been looking for ages. Many thanks in advance.
Sadly I don't know on which channel it might have been, but I feel it was a movie channel kinda like "hallmark channel". I should say that I saw this short in Argentina (where I live), but I'm certain that it was produced somewhere in the USA, Canada or Europe.
It doesn't have that twist you specified, but its very similar.
Many thanks for your reply. While I don't think this one is the video I've been looking for, it is indeed VERY similar... in fact for a while I thought it might have been. Heck, the bit at the end where the second monster appears looks very much like the part where the "mother monster" should be.
I clearly remember the boy smiling and fading away... Or maybe "Nightmare in my closet" was indeed the short I saw when I was a kid and I'm just misremembering some bits.
Anyway, I'm very thankful for your reply. I enjoyed watching "Nightmare in my closet" and I'm sure if I ever have children they would enjoy it very much too.
I found an obscure show recently called Nightmare Ned I know it's likely not it but every episode was about a boy who went to sleep in his bed and had nightmares, the show touched on a lot of things so I figured I would take a shot in the dark and put it out there. There is only 12 episodes made in 1997 all but two of them are found. It aired on Ytv. Possibly on reruns in 2002. There is an episode called "Monster Boy" you should check it out
