On the Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 cartoon DVD extras, I seem to recall Dic founder Andy Heyward answering questions.
One of the questions was "Why did you change voices for Mario?". He answered that the original pilot for AOSMB3 had Lou Albano, before he was dubbed over in the final with Walker Boone. (Presumably for cost concerns in the final product, but this is never explicitly said)
Considering other workprint versions of Dic properties have leaked:
such as - Inspector Gadget with Gary Owens in the lead role instead of Don Adams - Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog with Jim Cummings as Dr. Robotnik instead of Long John Baldry
I wonder if the Adventures of Super Mario Brothers 3 workprint still exists.
Now, Andy Heyward has a bad track record of getting major facts wrong on these interviews, so perhaps this was never true. Still, if it exists, that would be a really neat curiosity to find.
