Recently while browsing the mp3.com archives I found a song called "Shpydah!" uploaded in February 2002 by an artist named Jeff Saphin. The description reads:
"The Theme song that Jeff Saphin wrote for the Nickelodeon pilot of the same name."
Unfortunately the song itself doesn't seem to be archived, but there is a lyrics page that gives a vague idea of the plot.
I did some digging on Jeff's website from back in the day and found a page that goes into more detail about the plot and why Jeff made the song:
"Jeff got a call from the cable channel Nickelodeon, they were looking for someone to do the title track and episode music for their new cartoon (actually a pilot), "Shpydah". A story about a child spider who lives on a bookshelf in someones house with his Mum (she's a Real Estate Agent). He has a secret world in which he's a Spy hence the name."
He also later made a Facebook post in 2010 that mentions the fate of this pilot:
"Shpydah was written for a Nickelodeon pilot of the same name. A secret agent spider child... guess the whole hairy 8 leg thing was a tad to much for the kids... The show never left the runway... whoops. Heh..."
The last thing I was able to find relating to this pilot is the LinkedIn page for somebody named Gabriel Storm, who worked as a production designer on Shpydah and a few other shows including Little Bill.
So yeah that's it - this is pretty much all I was able to find regarding this pilot: A few blurbs from a guy that was commissioned to make a theme song for it and the production designer. No images, no theme song (that we can listen to at least), no mention from Nickelodeon, not even the name of the creator. Also worth mentioning is that Gabriel Storm worked on another pilot called "Gutter Pups" which may also be lost, although I haven't looked into it as much yet.
