i don't even know which board even to put this... it's like the opposite of lost media, something that only i have and nobody else
so i guess it'll be kind of a storytime thread
so i was watching a video on imperium galactica 2, which reminded me of a thing i had in the depths of my hard drive
a russian space sim titled just "galaxy", apparently made in 2006 by rambler, a search engine/general portal, kind of like a yahoo analogue but absolutely nothing can be found about the game, neither on any combination of search results for "галактика" "рамблер" "игра" "2006" nor wayback of rambler's games section
which means this thread is the only ever post on the internet currently discussing it
the game forces fullscreen and in that way that some other old games do where it sets your screen resolution super low
and it does not work with dxwind so i had to boot up my xp virtual machine
starting a new game immediately opens up into this wall of text i'm not going to translate
but basically humans discover a scout vessel from an alliance of several alien species who view our planet as less advanced, immediately blow it up, pissing off the aliens who later show up with desire to colonize earth
a huge war ensues, resulting in pyrrhic earth victory and humanity now has to restore its powers and reconquer the alien civilization
the gameplay is rather simple, you can reassign the population on work/scientists/military, respectively generating money(which is in rubles)/research/ships
new technologies unlock faster resourse generation, faster research, better fleet and more technologies
after assigning everything you just press "next month" and wait
it generates some random events a la oregon trail like "citizens inspired by new tv show increase productivity. +20 money" and some fights
which are very simplistic and only have "attack" and "retreat" buttons and this red text saying "YOUR PLANET'S SPACE HAS BEEN INVADED BY ENEMIES" which is really funny to me for some reason. kinda modern tumblr and 2016 r/me_irl core
then i ran out of money and it underflowed the counter. hooray
after you get enough money and ships you can jump to the next star
which btw are real stars like α Cen and β Cep
different planets have different scenery and unlocking some research adds new buildings
afterwards i got bored but there was one savefile which was more ahead (probably my dad's from when i was a kid)
you also canonically commit war crimes. the description for capella says "so far we've been only dealing with the military of the xeno alliance, this time we shall strike their civilian population". you can very much tell the game was made in russia
the jump requirements also rapidly increase cookie clicker style
HIGHLY RECOMMEND on using a virtual machine to play it, not only for resolution shenanigans but also because im kinda not sure for its safety
virustotal gets some detections but they're only on lesser known ai antiviruses and not the bigger ones who wouldve definitely had it if it was malicious since it's old and nothing too sus from the sandbox
but still better be safe than sorry
