Hi, I've never posted here before but I've lurked a little. Sorry for the length. I hope someone finds this interesting!
Back in 2015 or so, I used to download a lot of unlicensed Pokemon games off the app store. Apple started cracking down on copyright infringement sometime in 2016 or so, and unfortunately the majority of these oddities were lost.
One of the most unique ones I found was Super Evolution (aka Pocket Master, aka Magic Elves) by the developer Jia Qi Xiong. It became something of a joke between my sister and I until we found ourselves actually playing it. It was strangely well-effort, and despite the sometimes... questionable design choices, a lot of the characters were really cute. This game is pretty well documented with several YouTube videos, an official Facebook, and even a (sparse) fan wiki. (I would be remiss if I didn't mention the pages dedicated to matching each character with the real Pokemon counterpart on the wiki.) All downloads appear to be defunct, and I'm pretty sure I remember this game not working offline anyway.
I don't want to just talk about this one game so for more information/screenshots here is a discussion thread, a review, and a pastebin guide I found on 4chan for extensive gameplay description (I don't know why I was surprised to find a thread on there lol).
It also appears to be related to a game called Pocket Chronicle/Clash Grimm. I wish I'd heard of this one before it got shut down, because those fakemon designs are... wow. I haven't done a dive into this one but I would be surprised if it were available anywhere.
Did anyone else ever play these or other games based on licensed properties like this? There were many others, but most didn't stand out very much and I don't remember enough to search. I'm aware that copyright infringement has definitely not gone away on the app store/google play but it's definitely not what it was and you can't find games of this scale of big properties anymore to my knowledge. (': But if any good (?) ones currently exist I would love to know.
