So one of my favorite "urban legend" stories (which I learned from family) was of this dude (maybe a coworker of a family member?) who entered a supposed Taco Bell contest in the late 90s/early 00s and spent 1000s of dollars on Taco Bell food to win the ultimate prize of "meeting Angelina Jolie (AKA Lara Croft in the movie version of Tomb Raider)." He forked over like 30%+ of his income that year and ended up not only NOT winning, but not even winning a smaller prize.
I was telling my partner about it (who is both a big fan of the original Tomb Raider games and movies) and he got a good laugh about it and looked up the contest out of curiosity...only to find no record of this kind of contest actually existing? There were indeed some promotional prizes for the Tomb Raider movie at Taco Bell, but nothing about "meeting Angelina Jolie."

I do remember there being a promotion for Lucozade involving Tomb Raider called "Larazade". It may have had something to do with that and maybe he was getting confused. Lost Tomb Raider materials always interest me, thank god Tomb Raider III Remastered restored a lot of Tomb Raider 3.
Just look inside your heart, and you will find the answer.
Thanks for the article-tons of detailed information and possibly the most comprehensive coverage! I'm wondering if this story is indeed true, maybe the guy just thought he was going to "meet Angeline Jolie" by proxy somehow? Like maybe she'd turn out to be the "tour guide" or something for the grand prize OR by just being rich and famous, grand prize would attract her" LOL My partner had been looking up the contest to see who won, but there seems to be no record of the winner (s).
