So I was just browsing the magnificent site known as Platypus Comix when I stumbled upon a page called, "Adventures of the Battle Team". I had no idea what I was in for, but I clicked on it & I have found a GOLD MINE of potential lost media! Ladies, gentlemen, non-binary folks, really anybody, may I present to you a comic book series that could quite possibly be a better comic book series than Watchmen...
BATTLE TEAM:
This wild as heck indie unlicensed crossover comic book series was discovered back in 2021 by the Platypus Comix man himself & he did a page on it here. These were homemade comic books from the late 1970s & revolved around a team of heroes called the Battle Team, which consists of the Bionic Woman, Fantastic Four, Angel from X-Men & a few original characters. The storyline(or at least, what he could make out of it) is that time travel is happening & that time is actually the FOURTH DIMENSION. Wild stuff.
And as an extra bonus, it even has an advertisement at the end of the 5th issue where he advertises a new movie known as The Bionic Boy vs. Electro Kid, which sounds like it would've been amazing!
The maker of this absolutely magnificent series is Brian Charloe, who also did another comic series he found among the rest called Star Battles, which act as a sequel to Star Wars: A New Hope before the real sequel(Empire Strikes Back) came out!
Currently, only issues 5, 7 & 8 of Battle Team are known to have been found & only issue 4 of Star Battles, all 3 being found thanks to Platypus Comix. As sad as it is that the other issues of each series(and that movie) haven't been found yet, I am so overjoyed that such incredible parts of indie comic history have been preserved.
Ok, I'm just going to say it right now: I LOVE this kind of stuff: I like seeing stuff from before my time(Gen Z'er in the house), I love indie stuff(Newgrounds dude!) & I LOVE fanmade stuff(I used to gobble up Sonic fan videos & fangames back in my day & Sonic ROM hacks are still awesome to me), so seeing this obscure 1970s fanmade crossover comic book series be preserved? That. Is. AWESOME!!! It is like a dream come true to me, to just see goofy stuff like this be found & put on the internet for people to see. I really hope more of this gets uncovered later on because this is some truly beautiful stuff!
