Look, guys, I know I don't post on here a whole lot, but I just wanted to say something. I understand there's been some members here that have been involved in some, shall we say, less than desirable behavior. We understand that these users have aggravated us, or we're entertained by their antics. But it doesn't make us better if we fire back at them by flaming and/or trolling them. We're not helping them move on and better themselves by doing this, and, quite frankly, it associates us a lot more with Encyclopedia Dramatica type of behavior than it does a wiki that esteems itself in finding lost works.
If a member is banned, they're banned. Don't go hunting them down and picking on them. I don't care how much they're trying to get back at us. It's OUR job as admins to counter that, if you're seeing that they're engaging in behavior that is damaging to the wiki, or if they're trying to sneak back on here, just report it to us. Don't harass or bully these people.
As for some recent controversial bans, we know that we had to let go of some of the longer standing members, some of whom have helped find some lost works. These people have repeatedly broken our new rules regarding bullying and causing drama. We warned them and asked them multiple times AND IN SOME CASES GAVE THEM MORE CHANCES THAN WE USUALLY GIVE BECAUSE OF THEIR CONTRIBUTIONS. And they still took it upon themselves to break our rules. We've been lenient, some people have been able to stop the toxic behavior, others continued.
We understand that sometimes this is all done outside of the wiki or the Discord server. And we can't police everyone's behavior. But if your behavior can easily be traced back to the wiki and be associated with any drama currently going on, then we WILL take action for this. We're not gonna track your every move, but if it's related to drama that happened here, you bet you'll be slammed for it. Just because it's not happening on the wiki itself doesn't mean it isn't related. However, say you're going and trolling a random YouTube page and it has nothing to do with the wiki? Yeah, we're not going to get you for that. I'm saying this to clarify that we're only talking about behavior related to current/ former members of the site.
Finally, we have one more touchy subject to talk about. We've had members past and present that have threatened suicide. We get it, suicide is no joke. It's a serious issue that needs to be handled with the highest care possible. But we can't be letting banned members back onto the site just because of threats of self-harm. We can reach out to them and try to help, maybe contact local authorities or family members if need be. As someone who both used to be suicidal and had friends that have had similar issues, a lot of these people need professional help. This is help that most of us can't give. I'm not going to discourage you from telling someone that they're worth it and that they're wonderful, but we can't unban people because of this anymore. I understand that by saying this I'm putting myself under fire and a lot of you are going to hate me, but there are other ways to help people than by giving into their demands. In the real world someone doesn't get cleared of wrongdoing just because they're suicidal. We try to stop them from hurting themselves, but it doesn't magically clear their punishment.
Thank you again for your time and hopefully this helps clear up any questions that some of you have had.
