Even though I have sensory issues I actually feel more comfortable with a mask on than without (both because of concern about disease and also because without it on everything smells too strong). As a kid I first developed an interest in surgical masks around 2009 because of the current events, and for a few years after I asked for a mask to play with at doctor's/dentist's office. Even before I became interested in surgical masks I regularly had nebuliser treatments, so for as long as I can remember I was accustomed to wearing some sort of mask. I'm actually surprised I wasn't required to wear a mask when I was little, as I had very frequent illness for most of my childhood (my lungs were weak because I was born prematurely). Around the time I started middle school I was told I didn't need the nebuliser anymore, although when I caught a cold when I was 12 I asked for it again.
