Hey. I'm the one that ripped the 8 tapes originally a few years back. I didn't think people were still so.. interested in it since there wasn't much fanfare when I put em out... I deleted them because they were done with a bad capture device and I've been meaning to re-rip them forever ago. The biggest burden was a dvd recorder i bought not liking copy protected tapes (they tapes have macrovision or something...) so that upset me for the longest time as every time I tried to get a new thing to rip tapes it sucked and was seemingly a waste of my money. However in the past few months I got an i-o data gv-usb2 which works perfectly, but I've been too busy with other projects and things going on in my personal life to re-rip the tapes. They're an hour each so I'd have to set aside 8 hours to do it, but when the next month starts I'll do at least one a day to get it along.
Also, the 8 tapes aren't the full dub; I forget exactly how many segments are absent but there was a special 2 DVD set that has missing episodes I've been meaning to import but I've been putting it off since it's pretty pricey at being almost $200 and I never really saw people care about the dub (plus I saw one person outright mock it for being a lost media focus which pissed me off and made me less confident in the entire thing). If people actively still want this dub archived, I'd be more than happy to get it next month when I get paid.
Oh wow are you the person who messaged me about having the tapes years ago on Discord? I couldn't find which user had told me about them but I meant to find the conversation again to say people still want these. That would be awesome if you were able to get the VHS tapes up.
I'll keep an eye out for the DVD set too and let you know if I find one for a cheaper price. And take it from me, if people didn't archive lost media that others complained about, half the stuff that gets found wouldn't be. Don't let that discourage you or anyone else from taking care of this topic, or any other topics that get complaints.
Just so it's clear, this is the set that has the last batch of episodes:
It's much rarer than the normal 8 volumes since it's specifically a special edition set. It figures that with my luck i can't seem to find the complete thing for sale at the moment.. There is a listing on mercari japan that has the dvds themselves with a couple other (common) things for $132, but for the sake of getting my moneys worth I'd rather wait until the whole dvd-box itself is for sale even if it's like an extra $50. It would make a good display piece in my collection after ripping as opposed to just sticking two DVDs somewhere like I do with the tapes.
Edit: I found a couple listings on yahoo japan shopping. There aren't pictures but the sellers have dimensions that match the box itself (I used a visualizing tool to create a 3d box based on the CM dimensions). It could be considered a bit of a risk but I'm gonna go for it.

Since you're ready to re-rip Oswald tapes today, Could you do at least one a day to get it along, Please?
Well, I meant I was doing it in the month of june...
I've only done 3 so far because:
I've been busy with other things going on
The purchase of the last two DVDs was cancelled because it was apparently "not in a suitable condition for sale", so that's why I decided to do other things. meanwhile.
I got a new laptop, but it only has 3 USB slots which I use all the time so now I have to set aside time where I could be doing something else other than be on my computer.
Each raw rip takes up 14 GB which I eventually need to encode down to at least 4 GB to match a would-be DVD size. That would be around 118 GB just to hold onto the raw rips to encode later.
Basically, it's going to take up a lot of space and I've been working on other stuff like personal projects and another project I'm part of. And, despite the words of encouragement, I still feel like these are bringing me shame even though I genuinely appreciate Oswald... Blame the ruthless anti-kids-lost-media hivemind. You can say "don't worry about them" as much as you like but it'll always be in my thoughts.
Edit: I found out that apparently amarectv just outright refuses to work on this new laptop even though I'm pretty sure I have the same codec junk installed as my last laptop, so really, nobody is going to be happy here.

Here is The Day Schedule that you will be re-ripping Oswald Tapes on.
4th One: July 3rd 5th One: July 4th 6th One: July 5th 7th One: July 6th 8th One: July 7th
Look, I may have just finally found the codec I was using on my last laptop being x264vfw, but my actions are not going to be dictated like this by other people. I have a personal life outside of these tapes, you know... and the ignorance in even writing this message before I got my capture method working again is insane. I'm on the brink of using the next 5 hours of my time just to get the raw capturing over with.
I hope someone else can find the Japanese Dub of Oswald.
lol impatient much. Nobody's going to throw a couple hundred dollars at something somebody else is known to have otherwise there would have been DVD rips from more than volume 1 years ago. I was lucky to get all the tapes for lucky 20 bucks years back but I would NOT have spent upwards of $100+ on them back then (when individual volumes were like $90 each, seems to have dropped down significantly over the years) and I don't expect anybody else to put upwards of that much into getting them to do their own rushjob archival. I plan on redoing the first 3 with better settings that'll bring the filesize down to 11 gigs and not have to bother with encoding to deinterlace, and I might consider upconverting to 1080p.. ..because 4 and 5 which i did the new method with didn't capture with audio so I'm going to have to redo THOSE too I swear to GOD I couldn't be making up excuses if I tried, things just always have to go wrong for me.
I currently have tapes 4-6 ripped. I'm going to redo 1-3 with my finalized OBS settings (bringing each capture down to 8 GB) sooner or later and then obviously 7 + 8. I have no ETA on this aside from I'll try to do it before august.
