Just for frame of reference you know? We only know each other as the person who's obsessed with obscure Sesame Street skits, or a suicide tape, or gay Jesus porn. But outside of these bizarre lost media we're searching for, we all have other interests. What are some things outside of this passion you find interesting?
I'll start. I'm gonna list my top 3 in the following categories, followed by one guilty pleasure and my least favorite.
MOVIES For me, it's all about Godfather 2, Vertigo and probably Empire Strikes Back. I love how the first one works amazing as a personal greek tragedy and its wider implications to the rise and fall of all empires ("and we was like the roman empire"). With Vertigo, I love how it explores so much of how passion and romance, despite making life worth living, can ultimately harm us. It explores the ways men and women can hurt each other in relationships--leading someone on, trying to change them, etc and wonderfully flips who you feel sorry for midway through. Empire Strikes Back really hit me when I watched it again after years of not rewatching Star Wars. I realized what a tragic story it is, especially Han's character arc. Even Vader sees that his own son would rather commit suicide than be with him--that's some deep shit.
My guilty pleasure movie would have to be Good Burger. And my least fave movie...would probably be Hancock. I've seen worse, but none that I actually paid to see in a cinema. The script was so full of holes Im still shocked it was even released.
TV Bojack Horseman, Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad. Not a whole lot to say, except the first one literally saved my life and I think it's the most honest insight into humanity Ive ever seen...even if its technically about a horse.
My guilty pleasure would be Three's Company. My least favorite would be literally any reality TV show.
MUSIC I love late 60s psychedelic and early 70s progressive rock the most. Anything from that era is fantastic. In particular, I'd give shoutouts to The United States of America (self-titled 1968 album from a one-hit wonder band), Forever Changes by Love, and Pet Sounds by the Beach Boys.
My guilty pleasure would be anything Disco, particularly the SNF soundtrack. I dislike the modern trend of taking young women, giving them a TV show and then artificially turning them into pop-stars, so anything in that vein would be my least fave.
BOOKS The Great Gatsby, anything Tolkien and any biographies about 60s artists.
Guilty pleasure would probably be all the political books Ive started and am primed to continue reading. Least fave would be anything by Ayn Rand.
VIDEOGAMES I grew up on the Super Nintendo, so any good old side scrolling platformer from that era is my go-to. I particularly love Super Metroid, Chrono Trigger and Donkey Kong Country. Newer stuff would be anything Soul Calibur and Metroid Prime
No real guilty pleasures or least favorites here. I wish there weren't so many first person shooters these days though.
What about you? You dont have to go as in-depth, but what kinds of things outside of lost media interest you?
