I haven't been on the site in quite a while, but recently I've naturally been finding my way back. The forums are my favorite part of the site, and all of the individual search communities that go on in each thread.
But recently I've been seeing more and more shovelware threads that make me question "why the heck are we looking for this?" So I was like hey, why don't I make a thread discussing with others my least favorite kinds of lost media to search for- and maybe some people will agree with me, or have their own least favorites things to find.
So as a disclaimer I'm not trying to call anyone out or distract from a search effort, I'm just saying this is the kinds of stuff that I couldn't care less about.
#1. Promos/Schedules/Bumpers, etc.
If there's anything I view as more insignificant, unimportant, or scattered about lost media, it has to be these. Whenever I see new threads pop up for this topic I always think "wow, there's something we're never going to find", and even if we do....what significance or contribution will it really have to the lost media scene? Like cool we found a random 2006 bumper that announced SpongeBob was coming up next....just super uninteresting and unimportant to me. And like I've always said, there are probably hundreds more that people just aren't remembering or forgetting that we're not looking for, and also another hundred or so that are actually lost forever cause they were aired like once.
#2. YouTube content
I don't really get why random YouTube channels that have deleted videos are worth trying to track down. In most cases of YouTube lost media I've seen, it's usually some non-important/super specific channel that has a mass video purge and as a result like TONS of stuff from them is lost. I personally find it really pointless to try and find user-created videos, because in most cases if they channel wasn't big enough to be backed up anywhere, then the creator is the only person who's going to have those videos to begin with. And like, I have tons of deleted YouTube videos. But are they worth finding or reposting? No. And I don't think any other random YouTuber's content is worth that either even if it is technically labeled as "lost".
#3. Subs/Dubs
The most recent example I can think of with this is the SpongeBob Albanian dub. Like....ok cool it's a different language....but it's all the same animation as the US, and we know what they're saying because SB is in English....what's the point of another language, especially when I think the SB Albanian case was as simple as buying a DVD. Like, dang now we need the Chinese version and the Japanese version and the Spanish version and the Norwegian version....and now we need to cover this many bases for every show in existence. Like I just think it's a fruitless search in general especially when we know all languages for all shows is an impossibility.
So anyway, those were my least favorite search topics. Thoughts?
