Unfortunately, following the cancellation/wrap-up of the regular “The Middle” series in 2018, no newer potential spin-off series has been released to the public. No updates, no footage, nothing at all.
Can someone please help me confirm or debunk this spin-off series before I begin a full search for it?
My sister told me that she thinks the first pilot episode (maybe another episode) were filmed by ABC; but simply never aired…due to the idea being cancelled as a whole.
I heard this rumor too. It never got off the ground, assuming the thing actually existed.
It was filmed and does exist somewhere.
After doing a little research on the lost pilot, I learned that it was titled “Sue Sue In The City”, and it would have centered around Sue’s relationship with her boyfriend Sean after they both move to Chicago; while she works at a nearby hotel; that her older boyfriend Brad (from the original series) also works at.
For whatever reason though, ABC hasn’t shown any screenshots or footage from the pilot publicly.
I've always be interested in seeing the original pilot for The Middle, with Ricki Lake as the lead, an entirely different cast except for the actor that played Brick, set in a different town, and a different name for the character now known as Axl. It's unfortunately never been put online or as a feature on any of the DVDs.

I wasn’t sure if that version legitimately existed or not.
Also, the character who would become Axl was originally named Elvis in the pilot episode.

Yep.
Could be wrong, but I believe when I first learned about this years ago and looked into it, I found an interview with Atticus Shaffer (Brick) that pretty much confirms that pilot was shot. If they didn't release it while The Middle was on though, they'd have no reason to all these years later. Bummer. I love seeing pilots with different casts, it's always interesting. A lot of them do get released on DVDs as an extra, which makes me wonder if it's something they specifically don't want out there, kind of like how Joss Whedon has always hated the OG Buffy pilot and wish it never got leaked, as opposed to something they just never thought to share. If I were a bolder person, I'd message the creators about it, lol.

Speaking of pilots, does anyone know where I can find the original pilot of One Tree Hill? In the original version there was no Haley, instead there was a different character named Reagan(who you can still see shots of in the aired version of the episode).

I have it. Where would you like me to upload it?
Really? That's awesome! archive.org is your best bet as it's less likely to be taken down from there(i've seen some uploads of deleted scenes from the OTH DVDs taken down from Youtube).

Careful, they might be trolling us 🤔📼🔎
We don’t know if they really have it or not. They could just be saying it.

Oh I know, that's why I suggested archive.org, that way if they do have it it'll soon be up there, if not oh well. I do know that pilot is floating around out there so somebody must have it.

Doesn’t ABC own a copy of it?
Or Blackie & Blondie Productions? (The production company responsible for creating the series)
