Does it actually "play" the message or did someone's mind play tricks on them? May be related to the phenomenon where people hear music, speech, etc. from white noise machines or fans going.
Nobody knows. There's no actual recording of the audio/raw output from the device available anywhere online, despite the controversey happening past the .com boom. Archive.org scans of their site circa 2003 don't even show them promoting the brand line the toy came from at all, so the images we are relying on are old pieces from news sites and papers. The product was apparently pulled so fast you just can't find it anywhere. The best bet is it's going to sound like that elmo toy that vaguely sounded like it said something similar when the batteries degraded.
I was born around the time of this toy coming out and believe it or not I vaguely remembered a toy that was kept at my bedside so I went into my basement to see if I could find it. I didn't find the Wal-Mart version but I did find an Ocean Wonders toy that the Wal-Mart toy was based off of. I wanted to turn it on so I could see if it could help your case. Sadly the insides were corroded over time but there is a glimmer of hope. Since the Wal-Mart version is a private labeled version of a common toy the common version should have the same sounds and therefore the hidden massage. If anyone has this version instead of the Wal-Mart version in functioning order please take a listen. There are many a photo of the toy on the internet (I can't get a good one on mine). Keep in mind that there are different versions of this toy so if you have a different one than the ones on the internet or if yours doesn't have the message there is still hope.

No no,I think there's been some misunderstanding here. The Fisher Price Ocean Wonders toy is NOT the offending toy, there was no problem with the Fisher Price toy at all. The Fisher Price toy was never recalled, only the Walmart toy was. It does not contain the message, the two toys don't share the same soundtrack. The Walmart toy is only a ripoff of the CONCEPT of the Fisher Price toy,it's not like,a 1-for-1 copy. Sorry for dampening your enthusiasm :/

Or the Nev the Bear toy that sounded like it was saying "Prick" when it was actually saying "Quick"
...yeah, what meditate03 said. People really like to do three things: hear things that aren't there, take in suggestions from other people who have similar experiences (it could be some parent heard "I hate you" after hearing their friend saying they heard the same thing, like those YouTube comments that suggest which order a four-word chant such as "...you, you, me, me" could be heard in), and combine the latter two, this phenomenon is known as the Mandela Effect and it's less conspiracy or dimension hopping than the shoddy way our brain handles input.

This is probably my favorite "physical" lost media search yet. The story is bizarre, plus I'd argue it's less of a grey area than the other lost physical searches cause the audio would count as lost. It would be awesome for someone to not only find the toy, but also upload the audio for all to hear. As for where to find it today, maybe there's a chance there's one in a toy collector's hands? Wouldn't be too surprising given how quick the recall was, plus the whole rare beanie baby thing prior to this recall could have kickstarted some to collect more outlandish toys. Not sure where to start finding this though...might make a post about it on my Tumblr account since there's some toy blogs there (plus its a pretty dang funny story).
