It's insidious for sure. I don't trust a tiktoker telling me to "run to Target." At first I thought "oh its a meme saying" and then I realized "why are a lot of tiktoks so obsessed with material items." Really, it's to the point that I have to ask myself if I really want an item that's being shown to me, or if something else is going on.
This is what I have been thinking. There's been so many things advertised to me and I wonder if they're actually all that, or the brands just really want publicity for people's money. Consumerism in general is just really confusing to me.
The sponsors in a YouTuber's video comes to mind the most, considering a lot of the brands aren't... really all that great. Shane McGillicuddy makes really great videos exposing these brands that rely on YouTube sponsorships.
His new video, the candy one made me unsub lmfao
I'm nothing but a mass of concrete yet my heart is calling my name

I love those videos. Tried to watch one by a different channel, and when I realized they had nothing but good things to say about every brand they were "critiquing," I felt duped.
While they may not get much actual mainstream attention, I don't believe that The Emperor's New Groove or Treasure Planet can still be described as "underrated," as so many people online still refer to them as in comments, on forums, in videos, etc. TENG in particular is practically a living meme at this point.
Amphibia and The Owl house are the same show and no one can convince me otherwise. Both are also horribly overrated
Lol! I mix these shows up in my mind all the time.
I enjoy both but i've seen better.
Also i've never really cared about any of Nickelodeon's game shows like Double Dare, I know they're a big part of their history but i'm just not interested in them.
I think the Simpsons should have ended in 1999 or 2000, with 1999 making more sense as the "10 year finale." I stopped watching entirely by 2003, and the show just hasn't done enough to interest me since then.
Also don't want to be one of THOSE people, but I DID like social media way better "back in my day." The only thing that "modern" social media has for me is a more worldwide scope, and better photo/video sharing capabilities.
I don't know if this is a "hot take" anymore though.
