Due to how cryptic their explanation is, it seems like everything they are saying should be taken with a grain of salt so legal action is the most likely cause based on how they are dancing around the real reason. Aren't the people who boosted their sales entitled to an actual explanation? Will it ever be released? Why is the "explanation" so cryptic?
Being brutally honest? No. Steve does not need to state why it was pulled. It is what it is. HOWEVER, if they weren't offering refunds at all then yes, an actual explanation is due. I get it, everyone is trying to pin the blame on something. Steve has made it clear that all the reasons people have been going on about have been incorrect so why continue pushing claims that Disney was involved or LMW is to blame. Or how people on Twitter have been ripping LSSQ to shreds blaming him for.. *checks notes* making people aware of the bluray. Not saying you're doing any of that, btw. I'm more talking about in general. So overall I just wish people would respect Thunderbeans's decision. It's clear that this was a very hard decision they had to make. By offering refunds at all they are ending up with a net loss. I would personally like to know the real reason why, but frankly that's none of our business. They'll talk when when they're able to.

This is why you don't put controversial media like this or brand associated material whatsoever behind a paywall, that was their first mistake. LSSQ is not to blame for any of this, all the blame is upon thunderbean at the end of the day. They should have just released this for people to enjoy and none of this backlash would have occurred.
There is not a lot of understanding in your message or the others of what Thunderbean is and isn't, how the film community works and doesn't work, and how rare material is acquired, scanned and restored-- and how relationships with members of the communities work. The *other worlds* of film making, restoration and releasing should have respect for this Wiki- but often some *basic* rules of respect are not followed- as in some of the posts above. I'd never get anything done if I talked to people in the community like this-- in fact, they wouldn't even respond at all. So, please consider your tone... thanks. That said, I understand that its upsetting to *almost* see a film and have it pulled. For more on Thunderbean and how all these things work, there's an article I write weekly on Cartoon Research, and the Blu-ray forum has a Thunderbean thread. You can see exactly how all gears turn there, and also see I'm pretty open with what we do.
I love the idea of 'just releasing' anything-- but clearly there are reasons, and I'm attempting to explain as much as able to you and the folks here. The world is a complicated place, and in most circumstances I would have been dubbing these all night. Those few people who know me well and are part of the Thunderbean brain trust all know and agree on the decision-- and know it was the decision we needed to make. Even though I don't need to state this, there was no legal action involved in any way or anything along those lines- so that's not the reason at all.
I'm trying hard to be responsive and responsible to this community. Respect should be a two way street.
I understand the disappointment and anger. I'm disappointed too, and I'm sorry we've had to pull this film. It's the first time in 20 years of doing these things. We've made more rare animation available than anyone else, and I'm being respectful to you back, and I apologize for not being able to state more.
Will Uncle Walt get released? I don't know. Only time will tell!

I agree. The amount of disrespect I'm seeing in this thread today has been disappointing. Nobody is going to get anywhere causing a scene, blaming anything and anyone in the process. I feel this the thread should be locked for a while cause it's become clear as day to me that people can't behave themselves enough to have a conversation without it becoming a free for all. I would like to thank you for your time and patience. It's definitely not been a fun thing for you to talk about. I too hope that you and your team are able to get whatever is preventing you from releasing the film sorted. You definitely have my respect for all the hard work you've poured into Thunderbean and making all kinds of rare films available to the public. I can't wait to see what your next projects are going to be! Take care!
This thread has been unlocked again. Please keep ALL discussion respectful and as calm as possible now that it has been a few days. If things get heated again this thread will be permanently locked.
Steve did give us indication that there a possibility that Uncle Walt will be released in the future. 🤞 All we can do now is wait. Let’s not give up hope. I think it will be released one day 🙂👍
While we didn't get the short flim, we are getting closer at least. Now we have screenshots, that's something. I don't blame Thunderbean, he clearly had a very good reason for not releasing the flim at the last minute, whatever that reason maybe. I wish him the best of luck and I hope that someday soon we will all be able to view Uncle Walt in its glory or at least get some sort of closer as to why we can't.

By constantly delaying the blu-rays and NOT shipping the ones already done to the earliest customers so that at least some people get it by the promised time (seen no one saying they got a copy yet, else it would be a released title unlike what your comment implies), you are growing a sense of distrust that'll eventually result in demands for refunds
1. they aren't delaying anything, everything gets burned and artwork gets printed, then all the discs get shipped out at once.
if they literally had to sent each disc to people as soon as they were burned, they'd had to non-stop visit the post office to ship everything out 1 by 1....
meaning if you already were waiting for your orders, you'd be waiting a WHOLE lot longer now....
2. again, Thunderbean has enough custumers and blu-rays released to have a loyal fanbase, some people waited like 5 billion years for the Flip the Frog set, i'll guaratee that most people never asked for their money back.
3. there is no distrust, as that would imply Thunderbean did something to anger their fanbase, if that was the case, they would be out of business very quick, which is clearly not the case.

At this point, we're not going to get anywhere with the short if we just keep speculating about what just happened with the eBay auction and why Thunderbean decided to pull the short from their DVD at the last minute.
thunderbean, I wish you well in your future endeavors and continue to release more rare public domain animated short films. Maybe you can release the short one day.
Despite the frustrations of normal day life we go through, the best thing to do about it is still being happy for our friends and family.

From reading the forum where thunderbean posts, he mentioned that he is 99% going to stop making special edition/compilation releases. One of the reasons I gathered from my understanding of the readings is it has to do with copyright and he wants to focus his company on products that companies come to him to produce. So I don't think this will get released by Thunderbean from the reading and my understanding. Maybe if his company is around after the copyright holder/creater of this dies but if he is indeed going to stop making special releases then this will never get released. That's my understanding. He will continue to work on the current ones he already is making and possibly make 1 or 2 more to fund other projects. They are switching business models.

Steve gave us a clue that MAYBE Uncle Walt might get a release in the future (possibly). If Uncle Walt does get released, will it be from Thunderbean? Or will Steve give a copy to another dvd distributor?
