Since ad was obviously pre-YouTube and there are a limited amount of recordings, the next best thing (besides forums) would be blog posts. I can confirm that blogs were HUGE back then, and Livejournal (just one of many examples) was probably at its peak.
If we find a blog that mentions it, it might have screenshots which we can reverse image search and potentially find new info or even a video.
I’m going to try it today and report back with my findings.

We already have a lot of blog + forum mentions, most of which are linked earlier in this thread.
It's highly unlikely anyone had screenshots in the early 2000s unless the ad was on video sharing platforms, which we currently have zero evidence for.
have we tried Superbowl commercial compilations? the 2005 Superbowl was in February, which was after it was supposedly pulled, but I feel like there could be a chance McDonald's reused it for an event as big as the Superbowl. I'm grabbing at strings here, i'll try to find anything I can on this and check, but just an idea

I'm not even sure if anything in the Defend Your Chicken campaign was airing as late as February 2005.

I saw on one of those ad archive sites a couple from 2005, but I'm not sure when exactly they were from. and anyways I didn't find much browsing 2005 Superbowl archives. worth a shot!
I might try and get broader with searches, like just "McDonald's chicken commercial" or "McDonald's airplane commercial."

Yeah, I had skimmed through the thread and missed that part, but I’ve since read the whole thread and it does seem that every stone has been turned that regard.
In the meantime, I’ve been going through ad compilations that were uploaded recently (last 6 months or so) since it seems that most of the compilations uploaded prior to December 2023 have been combed through pretty thoroughly
I have to say that it strikes me as REALLY odd that we haven’t found this thing yet. We have a specific timeframe of only about 1 month or so, and seeing the same Starburst/T-mobile/etc ads over and over again makes it even weirder that it hasn’t popped up once. It makes me think that A). YBD was a regional ad that only aired in certain markets (like big cities) (though I feel like I vaguely remember seeing it and I live in the middle of Kentucky), and B). It only aired during certain strategic hours, like right before lunch/dinner, but most of the shows and ad compilations were recorded during prime time.
I’m halfway considering posting in a FB group with lots of members, like “I Love the 2000’s” or something, and seeing if anyone has info. But I want opinions on that first since this ad is/was somewhat controversial and I’m not a person of color.

Exactly, how do we have no visuals of this thing? A lot of lost media cases have even a tiny bit of it found, which sparks a search. This search is entirely through how well-remembered it is.
As for asking around about the commercial, it might be worth just forwarding LSSQ's video as it does a good job of summarizing what we know and the search.
Speaking of that video, like I said, it's a great summary, the only thing I'd add is that there are two sources corroborating the existence of the shortened version of the ad without the line and I'm more open to the thought that it wasn't a censored version, perhaps it was the :15 version which aired alongside the original. I'm still haunted by the thought that once we find one, we'll still be missing the other.

I'd go for it. You never know what some random on Facebook could be sitting on.

anyone tried looking at random commercial compilations from the time frame? I know it was mentioned it might have aired on adult swim, so i'm skimming through a few videos to see If there's ANYTHING that gets us even an inch closer

nevermind, I'm going to have to wait to look through it, my device is school issued and the compilations are blocked.

We have been doing this for months now. It's gotten to the point that if I search for 2004 ad breaks I have to scroll for ages to find any videos I haven'talready been through. I check new YouTube uploads of 2004 ads every couple of days.
I've also looked at Dailymotion and check Internet Archive regularly.

man, alright. hopefully something big happens soon
Has anyone tried checking Vimeo for this ad? As I see lots of rare ads pop up on there.
I have looked at hundreds of pages of Vimeo results for various search terms, much of it live on stream in the Lost Commercials server. Other people also picked up where I left off and got nothing.
I found a lot of McDonald's ads on there were simply titled "McD" and other abbreviations.
There's a slim chance it could still be on Vimeo under a completely unrelated title because a lot of crew upload their work under shorthand or just the date, but even compared to YouTube that's real needle in a haystack stuff at this point. Vimeo was how I got an ID on the director of the "Office" ads but we already established he had nothing to do with the rest.
